In an Instant Book Review

In an Instant by Suzanne Redfearn is for my book friends who love a YA book that breaks your heart and makes you reflect on life.  I read this in 2021 and still think about it from time-to-time.

In this story, we meet 16 year-old Finn on the day she dies in a car accident with her family and a friend.  We live through the accident with her and hear it from her perspective, then stay with her as she is stuck between worlds while watching the others struggle to recover and make it to safety. It’s sad, yes, but also full of love and reflection.

It doesn’t seem like one incident could be a whole book, but the accident isn’t the focus.  It’s the people and the way they love each other; the way they lean on each other.  It’s about Finn having to make peace with her life and watch her loved ones in their most vulnerable moments.  It’s ultimately a redemptive and reflective story, with a heartbreaking catalyst.

I understand not everyone likes to have their heartbroken with books, but if you do… this is an excellent choice.  If you like to occasionally shed a tear and reflect on life, especially when coupled with a YA protagonist … I think you will enjoy this book.
