Title Book Review
Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez easily fits into my top 5 romance books of the year – it was so full of humor and heart. In it we get reacquainted with Brianna, the best friend from book one in the series (Part of Your World) and we meet Jacob, the new ER doctor who is working with Brianna. They have a disastrous first meeting and misunderstand each other, but eventually come to realize that they thoroughly enjoy each other’s company.
At its core this is a faking dating, miscommunication story BUT it’s got so much depth that it feels unfair to strip it down to those labels. Both Brianna and Jacob were working on their mental health and speaking openly about it with each other. Brianna is post-divorce and dealing with a traumatic end to her marriage. Jacob is also working through a breakup and he experiences chronic anxiety. I was impressed at the way anxiety was represented – it felt so accurate (to me).
On top of their personal growth, they also intertwined over the plot of Brianna’s brother’s health and the intersections of their families. They both have passionate and involved families and I loved the way the supporting characters came into the story. Jacob’s family is full of chaotic humor and I could read a book all about them. And for those who loved book one, there are scenes with Alexis and Daniel, so you get a peek into how they are doing, too.
I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a quick read with laugh out loud humor and emotional depth. It’s really well done and for me, outdid book number one in the series (which I also really enjoyed).
Thank you to Forever and NetGalley for allowing me to read this gifted and advanced copy – I was so excited to dig in!
