The Idea of You Book Review

The Idea of You by Robinne Lee is one of those books that has a devoted fan-base who amps you up to read the book. When my library hold came in, I was excited to dig in and see what all the fuss is about.

The premise is unique and fun.  Solène is a thirty-nine-year-old woman who is taking her daughter and their friends to see a world-famous boy band in concert.  While there, they all get invited backstage to meet the band and a bit of a flirty spark stars between Solène and a member of the band, Hayes.

From there, it’s a whirlwind of secretive romance and attraction that is hard to stop reading.  You know those memes about reading spicy books while you’re out in public?  Hi, it’s me.

I’ll admit, in the first half of the book I was only so-so on it.  I had a hard time getting behind the inner conflict Solène was facing around making choices that would cause her daughter stress.  They went to the concert to bond in the wake of Solène’s divorce and it was hard to reconcile why she would jeopardize their relationship.

BUT… then I remembered it’s just a story and it doesn’t need to make sense.  It’s romance – sometimes it’s about suspending reality and just having a fun read.  So that’s what I did!  The second half of the book was H-O-T (about 4/5 on heat scale) and I don’t think it’s possible to resist falling in love with Hayes.

If this isn’t on your TBR, add it!
